BLS Instructor - What You Need to Know

BLS Instructor Courses are the first step to becoming a BLS Instructor. BLS Instructors play a vital role in the community by teaching people how to perform CPR and use an AED. The BLS Instructor Course covers everything you need to know about being a BLS Instructor, from the basic requirements to the practical skills you'll need to teach. At the end of the course, you'll be able to take the BLS Instructor Exam and, if successful, will be certified as a BLS Instructor. Once you're certified, you can then apply to join the AHA Instructor Network. The AHA Instructor Network is a group of certified instructors who work together to promote and deliver BLS courses in their community. As a member of the Network, you'll have access to resources and support that will help you succeed as a BLS Instructor.

Who is the course for?

The BLS Instructor Course is designed for individuals who want to become BLS Instructors. This can include, but is not limited to, certified or non-certified healthcare professionals, such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, and EMTs. The course covers the essential skills and knowledge needed to function as a BLS Instructor. Once completed, participants will be able to teach the BLS course to other healthcare professionals. In addition, participants will be added to the AHA Instructor Network, which will allow them to connect with other instructors and find BLS courses in their area.

What will you learn?

BLS Instructor Courses train individuals to teach BLS courses. BLS provider courses are designed for those who will be providing BLS care as part of their job, such as health care providers and first responders. BLS Instructor Courses are open to anyone who wishes to become an instructor. The AHA BLS Instructor Course covers core material such as adult and pediatric CPR (including two-rescuer scenarios and use of the bag-mask device), foreign-body airway obstruction, and automated external defibrillation. The course also addresses how to effectively teach the BLS skills, manage an BLS classroom, and use AHA course materials. In addition to mock class input, alignment options and issuing AHA eCards. Successful completion of the BLS Instructor Course results in a two-year certification as an AHA BLS Instructor and alignment with CPR Suppliers of your choice.

How long is the course?

BLS Instructor Courses are held at American Heart Association Training Centers and take approximately 3 hours to complete. The BLS Instructor Course is designed for those who wish to teach BLS classes and covers topics such as adult, child, and infant CPR; AED use; choking; and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction. Once you have completed the BLS Instructor Course, you will be able to teach BLS courses for groups, individuals and businesses.
